On 1st November the University of Aberdeen hosted FOSMA at the Sir Duncan Rice Library, where Dr Mary Pryor from the University gave an interesting talk on the Sivell murals to a group of Friends and supporters. She spoke about Sivell’s use of symbolism in his representation of academic life, as well as the depiction of war in one of the later panels.
In her description of the murals Mary suggested that an interpretation of the creation and the grape harvest panels, is that students come to the university eager and full of hope. As they progress, they learn to work in co-operation with others.
There was also a short presentation by Marion White about the ongoing work of FOSMA, with time afterwards for discussion and opportunities to study photographs of the murals.
